Boris van der Lek & The JazzFluencers
Boris van der Lek & The JazzFluencers deliver acoustic jazz with warmth, swing, and character. The music is rooted in the tradition of the 1950s, with a strong emphasis on melody, dynamics, and interplay.
The repertoire moves between whisper-quiet ballads and energetic swing, with an open, direct sound reminiscent of Jazz at the Philharmonic and the Hague period of the North Sea Jazz Festival. Live jazz, played with experience and conviction.
In April 2025 the band took the album When I Fall in Love at MCO Studio 2 in Hilversum. The recordings were largely made live with an audience, making the energy and interaction audible.

When I Fall in Love is the new album by Boris van der Lek. The album is inspired by the music of Ben Webster and Harry “Sweets” Edison. Their lyrical approach and sense of melody form a clear undercurrent, audible in sound and interplay, always played with a personal signature. Sometimes the atmosphere feels almost cinematic. The album goes back to the essence of jazz, tone, timing, and the magic that arises when musicians truly find each other.
At its heart is the chemistry between Boris van der Lek's tenor saxophone and Koos van der Hout's trumpet. Koos often plays with a muted trumpet, soft and round in tone. Their interplay is restrained and attentive, with room for silence and nuance.
The recordings took place in MCO Studio 2 in Hilversum. The band played together in one room, around one microphone. The recording breathes the soundscape of classic jazz records, where music is created in the space and captured in all its purity. Recording engineer Frans de Rond captured this with attention to sound and balance.
The album has a Blue Side with swing and uptempo, and a Rose Side, offering space for romance and calm.
“The title track ”When I Fall in Love" is closest to my heart, precisely where silence and melody merge.” – Boris van der Lek
